Eleventh Hoya Haul of 2023 – Carla's Hoya haven
I ordered plants from the Canopy Plant Co. in Louisiana on September 30, 2023 and they arrived well packaged and in lovely condition on October 6, 2023.
Ads for the Canopy Plant Co. have been appearing in my Instagram feed and after a number of these ads I had to check it out.
I purchased Hoya noona, Hoya minibelle, Hoya acuta inner variegated.
I didn’t have time to write a post about my when they arrived new plants so I found spots for them under grow lights, watered as needed and left them alone. These are fantastic additions to my growing Hoya collection.
Hoya noona is a pretty little hoya with slender vines and small leaves. She is equally at home in a hanging basket or draped over a shelf with her lovely little leaves cascading downward. Hoya noona is a hybrid between Hoya davidcummingii and Hoya heuschkeliana. She arrived with the tiniest leaves and the leaves were thin.
I set her on a shelf under a blue light since my propagation shelf was the only space I had left for her. Over the course of the past month the older leaves have grown larger and she has grown several new leaves. She has an excellent root system so I recently repotted her and moved her to the grow tent for the winter.
Hoya minibelle above is a hybrid of Hoya shepherdii and Hoya carnosa. The leaves aren’t quite as narrow as Hoya shepherdii and she is not quite as slow to grow. I’ve had Hoya minibelle under a Sansi grow light and she’s steadily added a few new leaves. Hoya minibelle is a little more forgiving of changes to lighting, environment and care than Hoya shepherdii though she still likes to dry out between waterings.
Hoya acuta inner variegated has small oblong leaves with patches of white or yellow in the middle. This plant definitely requires a well draining soil and is sensitive to overwatering. I recently pulled this plant out of the pot and I had the chunky bark way too wet. I repotted in my own mix and put it back in the grow tent. I’m going to let it dry before watering again.
The older leaves on this plant are thicker. The tender young leaves are thin. It does appear to do better inside the grow tent for now. It’s a lovely plant but a slow grower which seems to be the case with most plants whose leaves sport a lot of white. Hoya acuta is a synonym for Hoya verticillata
Below are a few photos of the packaging from Canopy Plant Co. The condition of plants at time of delivery was excellent. They have a growing selection of Hoyas to choose from along with a large variety of other houseplants. Prices on Hoyas are quite reasonable and I’ll be shopping there again.
